National u3a
The Five Deans u3a is part of the National u3a movement. The u3a was founded in 1982. It is a UK wide movement that provides a wide range of opportunities, both educational and social, for people in their third age. There are over 1000 u3a groups across the country with over 450,000 members. The National Third Age Trust provides education and admin support for the local groups. u3a Magazine
The Third Age Trust produces a magazine four times a year called “ u3a Matters”. This is posted directly to members. You can subscribe to this by adding £4 to your membership fee when you join the Five Deans u3a or when you renew your membership. The magazine has interesting articles on the u3a movement, stories about members and u3a activities, and items relevant to people in their “third age”.

Interest Groups on line
The National u3a also offer Interest Groups online and have about 100 different groups with 1000 members. These groups meet on zoom.

On line learning
The national u3a offer on line learning events free to members of any u3a branch. These are talks, workshops and courses that operate over zoom. Most sessions are led by fellow members, sharing their expertise, with additional talks from notable speakers and organisations. All events are bookable via Eventbrite. They cover a wide range of subjects which change monthly. Events need to be booked in advance. You can find out more about these at this link
Summer School in Chichester
The Five Deans u3a is part of the South East Region of the u3a. Each year the South Easst Region organise a Summer School in Chichester. The dates for this year are 7th to 10th September 2026.
